Tenuous support

It has been curious to see the fans of various college football programs, who oppose the fans of in-conference teams during the regular season, join in the collective smack talk about out-of-conferences teams (e.g., SEC fans bashing the Big Ten or Big 12 fans dissing the Pac-10).

It’s obvious that, while sharing a some common ground and praising their fellow in-conference teams in their bowl contests, there is a tension that is just below the surface…. And just let one of those in-conference teams “screw-up” and blow its bowl game against a supposedly inferior out-of-conference opponent (e.g., Texas Tech and Alabama). The limited truce will be over, and there’ll be hell to pay.

Ah … human nature.
